Slept in again. Damn! Had to combine swim and run at lunch. Swam a 2x750 with 10:59 and 12:02 splits and a one minute rest. Not bad, considering I haven't been in the water for ten days. From the pool, ran down to Davis Field (half mile?) for speed work. 1x800 on 3:10 (so slow, hurt so much!), 1x400 (1:22) 1x200 and 1x100. I really don't like the 800. My legs felt tired on the run to the track, and I knew that 800 would hurt, but it went beyond my expectation. Honestly, though, I wanted to do two sets of each today, but time didn't allow. A second 800 would have come in at about 4:00 probably. My run is definitely suffering from the extra focus on the bike.
Bike to work starts Friday (May 1). From then on, it's bike to work til mid-September maybe, and at least til Labor Day. It's only a 1.5 miles to work! Last year I hit 100% bike to work, and I rode in the rain a few days. Hope to match that this year.
I'm a family guy who is addicted to swim/bike/run and anything to do with getting out into the backcountry wilderness areas. This blog focuses on the swim, bike, run and other various aspects of my attempts to finish in the top ten percent of my age group in whatever race I do. It used to be all about finishing the legs of an Olympic Distance triathlon: swim in 20 minutes, bike in 60 minutes, and run in 40 minutes. Now, it's more about training well and finishing well.
