Changing schedules...what to do?
I had to change up my schedule a bit today, and it didn't work very well. First, the swine flu required some additional time at work. I work in public health emergency preparedness/response, so the swine flu has us busy.
Tera had a meeting after work at 5:30, so I figured I would just swim in the morning, then bike at lunch, and run after work. I normally swim at lunch and bike after work on Mondays, leaving the biking to Tuesdays and beyond. I've refocused my biking efforts, so I wanted to do a bike today, too.
The swim in the morning? Hah, what a joke! That's why I don't schedule Monday morning workouts. I didn't make it.
Bike at lunch went well. This was the first time I've taken my bike to work for a bike at lunch. I researched some hills near work, and found a 1.5mile hill with 500ft elevation gain. I did it twice to get a feel for the timing so I can schedule it again. Two times up, each just over 9 minutes, and then up the big hill back to work in 3:33. Total of 30 minutes out. I can add one more time up the hill and still make it back to work on time. That's good to know. So, today was a good workout (albeit a bit short) and I know I can schedule that workout plus one more time up the hill for lunch workouts.
The run? Didn't happen cuz I was at work later than normal. And if I had taken Paul then (because I had baby duty cuz Tera was at a meeting), then he would have fallen asleep in the cruiser, making it difficult to get him back to bed asleep. I simply didn't want to play that game, so no run.
I hope I can make up the run tomorrow and still get in the Portland-simulation hill three times. We'll see. Weather is supposed to be rainy, 70% chance of rain, and thunderstorms.
I'm a family guy who is addicted to swim/bike/run and anything to do with getting out into the backcountry wilderness areas. This blog focuses on the swim, bike, run and other various aspects of my attempts to finish in the top ten percent of my age group in whatever race I do. It used to be all about finishing the legs of an Olympic Distance triathlon: swim in 20 minutes, bike in 60 minutes, and run in 40 minutes. Now, it's more about training well and finishing well.
